Megatrends in the automotive industry are facing new challenges for the materials used, yet at the same time opening up new opportunities. Electromobility and autonomous driving are set to revolutionize cars and put established vehicle concepts to the test. Modern vehicles already rely heavily on material solutions from the chemicals industry; however, in future, chemistry will play an even greater role, making a significant contribution to solving tomorrow’s mobility challenges. With high-performance plastics BASF is already supporting these trends and is offering innovative solutions.

Driving Future Mobility

The automotive industry is in the midst of radical change. Disruptive technologies such as autonomous driving, connected cars, electromobility and new mobility concepts, for example car sharing and ride hailing, all create new challenges for our developers and designers.

Think of a driverless sleeping capsule bringing you from Hamburg to Munich overnight, or a lounge cabin arranging a day trip in Shanghai for you and chauffeuring you to local tourist attractions in a most relaxing way. New mobility concepts combined with autonomous driving will disrupt our ways of moving from A to B, just like smartphones changed our way of communication. It is a pleasure for us to help shape this exciting future with our product and service solutions.

Light but robust parts made of Elastoglex® and Elastocoat®. contribute to the long lifespan of the car. You can literally stand on roof and hood.
Breaking new ground
Together with Citroën, BASF joined the journey to a new fully electric car concept: oli [all-ë]. Less is more! The car was painted with the the latest generation of waterborne coatings. For the interior, the concept car used NovaCoat-P, a waterborne coating for flexible substrates that provides additional protection against abrasion, UV, chemicals and dirt.
